In 2008, the Royal Family of Yogyakarta launched Jogja International Heritage Walk (JIHW) as an activation towards Education for Sustainable Development (ESD); a United Nations program that defines education that encourages exchange in knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to enable a sustainable and just society for all.

Walking routes through scenic villages, including Cricula’s natural habitat conservation ground and UNESCO world heritage sites are specifically designed with the hope to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage while empowering local communities; encouraging interactions and cultural exchanges with international walkers.
