World Heritage Project Officer

Graduated with a M.A. in Culture Heritage Studies from University College London (UCL), and a Master of International Law from Paris Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Marie is currently supervising the UNESCO WHS application process of the historic urban park of Birkenhead in England. In this role, she conducts various duties, such as coordinating the drafting of the Nomination Document; developing short and long-term strategies for the Park; engaging with stakeholders; encouraging community involvement and fostering local participation; raising the international profile of the place; and improving the visitor experience. Before embarking on this journey, she took on various roles with a focus on World Heritage Sites. After she graduated, she worked as a project researcher on a Cultural Heritage management consultancy for the WHS of Butrint (Albania). In 2019, she provided support for the evaluation process of aspirant WHSs for ICOMOS International Secretariat, and co-drafted the discussion paper on ‘Sites associated with memories of recent conflicts’. Since 2019 she has been volunteering for the French NGO Patrimoine Sans Frontières, and in 2021-22 she got further involved as Project coordinator for the transnational project ‘Youth involvement in a constructive dialogue: Communist Past in Contemporary Western Balkan’ funded by Europe for Citizens.
