Surakshi mainly focuses on providing knowledge management, support and building capacities of SGP partner organizations of the Urban Wetlands of Colombo (UWC) landscape projects on wetland conservation and livelihood uplift. It also aims to share experiences and knowledge so that the partners can harmonise work in achieving the objective of building landscape resilience. The funded projects are 10 in number and addresses GEF focal areas of biodiversity, climate change and land degradation with support to poverty reduction activities and community empowerment. As the capital of the country, the landscape of the Urban Wetlands of Colombo is in continuous transformation, with its land value going up continuously it is a challenge to conserve the remaining wetlands. All attempts to intervene in the management of the landscape and maintain balance of the natural ecosystems with the rapid development interventions that are taking place there, has to be supported and assisted
