Tontho is a Forester, Agro-systems leader, climate innovator and a land restoration startup founder of Sustainable Farming Solutions (SFS). She's dedicated to bringing small-scale farmers and forest owners in Malawi access to low-cost technologies and access to finance, so they contribute to the ambitious 4.5 million Ha restoration pledge that Malawi made to the Bonn Challenge and AFR100 through indigenous woodland regeneration and tree planting. She was motivated to start SFSMW after realizing the tremendous changes climate change has brought to small-holder farming, particularly women and how fast rural communities have to adapt to the changes for resilience. Tontho has a BSc in Forestry, and an MSc in Tropical Forestry and is currently a PhD researcher modelling landscape management in a changing climate for enhanced forest landscape restoration and livelihoods. She believes the answer lies with the communities in the landscapes and is devoted to finding solutions to heal their ecosystems.
