Protected Areas: "Dialogue on Marine Solutions in the Pacific" (Webinar 1)

Thursday, 25 June 2020, 22:00 to 23:15 (Central Europe Summer Time)

Friday, 26 June 2020, 7:00 to 8:15 (Noumea) / 10:00 to 11:15 (Tahiti)

As part of our Journey to Marseille, a series of online events leading up to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in January 2021, IUCN and its partners are pleased to annouce the BEST-PANORAMA Webinar Series.

This series will kick off in June 2020 by giving the stage to practitioners to lead a discussion on Educational and Locally Managed Marine Areas in the Pacific. Protected areas are essential for nature and the wellbeing of human communities. The management of marine areas is not an easy task, and varies widely from one region to another, influenced by different visions of how nature should be protected, and grounded in a range of economic, environmental and social perceptions. This webinar will give the stage to EMMA (Educational Managed Marine Area) and LMMA (Locally Managed Marine Area) practitioners from the Pacific to present their ‘solutions’, share good practices and challenges, and discuss potential uptakes. The practitioners will share their perspectives on each other’s solutions and especially on the opportunities or barriers that they foresee, to adapt and replicate them in their own context.

Business Engagement: "Advancing action on nature through business platforms" (IUCN BioBiz Webinar)

Thursday, 25 June, 2020 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (Central Europe Summer Time)

In this 7th IUCN BioBiz webinar, we will find out how civil society can use multi-stakeholder platforms as a tool to raise awareness and promote action by business on nature. We will first hear about success factors for establishing business platforms from former IUCN colleague Hélène Marre, who undertook a study of eight such platforms in the IUCN network, before hearing directly from two NGOs who run successful business and biodiversity platforms in Sri Lanka and South Africa.
