With the “UNGA Conference 2020: Five Years of Action Towards the SDGs” taking place today, 23 September 2020, PANORAMA chose the topic of the conference as an occasion to analyse how the partnership is contributing to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were published as part of Agenda 2030 to address global challenges and to achieve a more sustainable future for all. Specific goals are designed to address issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. It is important to recognise that all goals are interlinked and must be achieved collectively as not to leave anyone behind.
This aspect is also being addressed by the global partnership PANORAMA. As a multi-actor partnership, it operates under SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals) and disseminates knowledge and best practices by publishing successful solutions. In addition, the more than 600 solutions currently available on the website, deal with the achievement of numerous other SDGs.
Solutions for all SDGs can be found on the website. But according to the solution providers, most solutions on PANORAMA contribute to the implementation of SDGs 13 (Climate action), 14 (Life below water) and 15 (Life on Land) with over 100 example solutions for each of the goals. This is particularly reflected in the solutions from the Marine and Coastal, Protected Areas and Ecosystem-based adaptation thematic communities (TC). Other SDGs that are particularly addressed in the Agriculture and Biodiversity TC are SDGs 1 (No Poverty) and 3 (Good health and well-being for people). The Business Engagement TC also offers some solutions in the thematic area of SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production). Relatively few of the currently existing solutions on PANORAMA contribute to the implementation of SDGs 7 (Affordable and clean energy) and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). However, as an ever-evolving platform with a flow of new solutions being continuously added, contributions to these SDGs may emerge in the future.
