The Reef-World Foundation is a UK-based charity that has worked with local people to conserve coral reefs in South East Asia, the world centre for biodiversity, for over 20 years.
The Reef-World team works towards the following guiding principles -
1. Inspire sustainable production and consumption within the reef tourism industry through the provision of realistic and practical solutions to local and industry-wide environmental challenges;
2. Empower key champions within local communities, authorities and governments to be the long-term stewards and protectors of their natural resources;
3. Build local capacity to implement meaningful and proven coastal resource management approaches to better deliver on international conservation commitments;
4. Demonstrate how public private partnerships can build capacity for strengthening industry practice and relevant legislation for sustainable reef tourism activities from the grassroots to international levels; and
5. Incorporate innovative, sustainable financing mechanisms to cover long-term conservation and management costs.
Reef-World's mission is to "To inspire and empower people to act in conserving and sustainably developing coastal resources, particularly coral reefs and related ecosystems."
