Vergez
Antonin Vergez is an Agronomist and Engineer by training and holds a PhD in Social Sciences with a major in Agricultural Economics (diplomas from AgroParisTech). As a student, Antonin did research at CIRAD (2005-2009) and conducted intensive field work in Mexico and South Africa, gaining insights into impacts of policies and expanding his linguistic horizons.
More recently (2009-2021), Antonin was a high civil servant at the Ministry in charge of the Environment in France in the capacity of Economist and Policy Adviser managing a team working on global public goods (biodiversity and climate policies). His activities at the national, European and international levels focused on products' environmental labelling policies based on life cycle analysis, prospective modelling in climate change, biodiversity offsetting, green bonds assessment, ecosystem services assessments and valuation, environmental accounting, critical minerals involved in the low carbon transition.
In 2017-2021, Antonin led the team who coordinated the National Ecosystem Assessment program (Efese) in France.
In 2021, he taught the course on "European trade policy and environment protection" at SciencesPo's School of Public Affairs.
Antonin joined IUCN in June 2021 as a Senior Expert on Natural resources economics to be part of the Economic Knowledge Unit, under the supervision of Chief economist Juha Siikamäki. He is working on several themes such as BIODEV2030 project, the STAR metric, environmental accounting approaches, the CBD post 2020 framework as well as on the trade and deforestation and harmful subsidies issues.
Antonin is married and a father of three boys who fill him with energy and happiness.
