Senior Policy Officer - National and International Partnerships
Dr Joanne Wilson is the Senior Policy Officer for National and International Partnerships in NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. She is an experienced conservation scientist and manager with over 20 years experience in diverse roles across state governments, industry and non-government organisations. She has a background in research and management of marine and coastal ecosystems, protected area management and monitoring and evaluation. Joanne spent five years in Indonesia leading the marine science and capacity building program for The Nature Conservancy.
Her current role in NPWS includes managing IUCN membership and programs, leading the NPWS Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas Program, and promoting implementation of relevant recommendations from the Promise of Sydney including management effectiveness, connecting people with nature and working with traditional custodians to manage protected areas.
Joanne is an active member of the World Commision for Protected Areas. As a member of the Green List Specialist Group and a member of the global Standards Committee. She is also a member of the Health and Well-being Specialist Group.
Joanne lives on the south coast of NSW and is happiest when she’s immersed in nature – either hiking or underwater.
