The name nekton is a word from ancient greek, used in zoology to describe aquatic animals that swim against or independently of the current.

Our roots are in science and journalism. to understand the world better and to inform as many people as possible about the ocean.

We are a not-for-profit research foundation, a registered charity. we work with the university of oxford and a wide range of partners to accelerate the scientific exploration and protection of the ocean.
