PANORAMA 30x30 is co-coordinated by the IUCN Global Protected and Conserved Areas Team and UNDP Nature Hub.
The global community has committed to conserve 30 percent of Earth’s land and waters by the year 2030 (The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Target 3).
Protected areas, including national parks, nature reserves, and community-conserved areas, are essential for biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods by providing vital ecosystem services such as food, clean water, medicines as well as climate adaptation, mitigation, culture preservation and more. Solutions in this community highlight practitioners’ experiences and lessons learned in these areas, constituting a wealth of knowledge in our collective effort towards 30x30.
The IUCN helps countries and communities establish and manage these areas effectively, recognizing them as key to achieving the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through its Protected and Conserved Areas Team, IUCN promotes fair governance and effective management using global standards like the IUCN Green List, ensuring high-quality, equitable, and sustainable conservation efforts.
UNDP is working towards putting nature at the heart of development, for a more equitable, sustainable future. Together with partners, UNDP is supporting over 140 countries reach the Global Biodiversity Framework targets including in expanding and effectively managing protected areas. To date, UNDP supported the improved management and protection of 482 million hectares of terrestrial ecosystem and 450 million hectares of marine ecosystems.
