I am an agronomist. I am interested in farming systems; with a bais in cropping systems. I have interest in improving and developing sustainable production practises among smallholders with little or no external inputs. To this end I have developed the use of intercropped legumes as green manure either by thinning or clipping management of the legume crop after 6-7 weeks of growth to supply nutrients to the soil. To further feed the soil and improve productivity I am advocating the composting of crop residues and farm wastes (sold in the markets or used at home) through digesting such residues using rumen contents from abattoirs. This will further improve the soil and the environment; and perhaps impact green house gas emmission.

I developed the use of the African bush tea for pests and diseases control in crops. The process is supposed to repel insects that could be harmful to crops, though an ingredient in the crop is used in the manufacture of insecticides. The plant has anti-bacterial and anti-fungicidal properties; essential in the control of diseases. It is used by natives to cure chronic dysentery. The plant also has allelopathic properties and can be used in weed control.

I worked for the Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University; since obtaining a degree in agriculture in 1972 and I am about to go on mandatory retirement.
