The Mangrove Action Project (MAP) is a small NGO registered in the USA with offices in Seattle WA, USA and Trang, southern Thailand.  MAP formed in 1992 in response to the rapid expansion of shrimp aquaculture into the mangroves and the resulting impact on coastal communities.  MAP’s pro-active approach to long-term mangrove conservation involves:  education, advocacy, collaboration, conservation and restoration, as well as sustainable community-based development.

Mission Statement: Partnering with mangrove forest communities, grassroots NGO's, researchers, and local governments to conserve and restore mangrove forests and related coastal ecosystems, while promoting community-based sustainable management of coastal resources.
