Lisa has a Bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz (1993) and completed the University of Belize’s first MSc program in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the University of the West Indies (2014), graduating with ‘distinction’ for her research paper on acroporids. 
Lisa founded & registered Fragments of Hope in Belize in 2013 and in the US as 501c3 non-profit in 2015.

In 2014 Lisa was awarded the Ocean Hero of the Year Award from Oceana Belize.

In 2017, Fragments of Hope attended COP 23 to receive their Lighthouse Activity award from the UN Secretariat for Climate Change under their Momentum for Change Program. And the Independent (UK) named Lisa as a ground-breaking female for 2017. In 2018 Lisa Carne was given a  Women as Agents of Change Award by Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Belize.
