Architect and Conservation Specialist
Merve is a conservation architect with a master's degree from the Restoration Department of Middle East Technical University and received her PhD degree in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage Department from the Izmir Institute of Technology. She is currently working at the branch office of Historical Environment and Cultural Properties at the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. She has coordinated multifaceted public projects of conservation and management of archaeological and urban sites of Izmir since 2014. Previously, she took an active part in the documentation of architectural finds in the archaeological excavations of Teos, Nysa and Sagalassos. She has participated in international and national workshops and symposiums regarding the conservation of cultural heritage, such as the workshop held by ICOMOS Azerbaijan, Europa Nostra Serbia and the ICLAFI Symposium. She has taken a role in the preparation of the nomination dossier of the Historical Port City of Izmir, which is on the Tentative List of WHS. She is interested in cultural and archaeological heritage management, especially on the physical and social integration of the archaeological sites with the metropolitan cities.
