Weerasuriya

Dr. Yohan Weerasuriya is the founder and owner of Back of Beyond Sri Lanka, a responsible eco-tourism operation which he launched in 2007.  He has a M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Ph.D in Agronomy from Purdue University in the U.S.A. He was formerly the Director of Puritas (Pvt) Ltd, a company involved in Pollution Control and a member of the Hayleys Group, and retired early from the corporate world to pursue a dream he had nurtured for a long time – to build an eco-tourism venture which would not only be sustainable but would enable him to contribute to environmental conservation and community empowerment of his motherland.

An avid nature and wildlife enthusiast from a young age thanks to a father who was a famed wildlife photographer in Sri Lanka, Yohan’s dream is to see the beauty of Sri Lanka’s wilderness preserved for the enjoyment of future generations, as he once did as a child… His knowledge and passion for sustainable agriculture still drives him today and he is currently working on building up a sustainable agricultural practice as part of his eco-tourism business. He invests privately in environmental conservation in Sri Lanka and is an example for other business operators, especially in wildlife and eco-tourism.
