One of the major pieces of news from the IUCN World Conservation Congress was the signing of a renewed cooperation agreement between IUCN and GIZ . The agreement reflects GIZ’s and IUCN’s mutual and continued interest in coordinating and advancing the PANORAMA initiative.
The cooperation agreement was signed by GIZ’s Managing Director, Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven, and IUCN’s Director General, Dr. Bruno Oberle in a small ceremony. They had this to say:
“GIZ is a part of the IUCN family. We have been working together on PANORAMA for several years and are even scaling that up now.” – Dr. Oberle.
“PANORAMA is a fascinating global network and platform. It provides a lot of flexibility… We are here for the longer-term.” - Hoven
Both organizations, who jointly host the PANORAMA partnership secretariat, agree to continue and strengthen their joint work around:
- Coordination and operationalization of the PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet partnership
- The institutional integration of the PANORAMA methodology and the long-term development of the PANORAMA partnership.
The two partners complement each other, with GIZ providing services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development on a wide range of topics, while IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest environmental network. Both organizations bring their global reach, broad expertise and vast networks to the PANORAMA initiative, working closely with other PANORAMA partners.
The agreement represents an extension of an agreement originally signed in 2019.
