Dr. Tungalag (Tungaa) is the director of the Zoological Society Luujin, a Mongolian wildlife conservation NGO. She earned her Ph.D. in Rangeland Ecosystem Science from Colorado State University, where her award-winning dissertation explored the social outcomes of community-based rangeland management in Mongolia. Dr. Tungaa also holds a Master’s degree in International Development from the International University of Japan. With extensive experience in international organizations, Dr. Tungaa led the Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction team at the United Nations Development Programme in Mongolia from 2005 to 2012. She is a pioneering facilitator of Participatory Rural Appraisal for community-based natural resource management in Mongolia. Additionally, she has served as an Adviser to the Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia and as a Science Secretary at the Institute of Geoecology and Geography of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Currently, Dr. Tungaa is the President of the International Rangeland Congress, and she also contributes her expertise as an independent research member in the Science Policy Interface of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). She is also an Associate Editor of the Earth Stewardship Journal.
