I’m Carolina Dutra de Araujo — an environmental scientist passionate about the intersection of nature conservation, community development, and sustainable tourism. With over 15 years of experience across Brazil and Europe, I focus on protected areas, forest ecology, and ecotourism policy. Currently I am a contributor to the Conservation Outlook Assessment platform (IUCN) for the World Heritage Sites (UNESCO), focused on social and economic development, environmental threats and nature conservation. I also serve as associate editor and reviewer for scientific journals. I have conducted research and published papers of case studies in sustainable tourism and policy (e.g., Fernando de Noronha and Ilha Grande, Brazil) and collaborated with international researchers and conservation networks.
My research interests are:
- Governance and public use in protected natural areas
- Community-based development and collaborative policymaking
- Power dynamics and conflict resolution in environmental contexts
- Ecotourism strategies and payments for ecosystem services
