Val Alba Nature Reserve Establishment
Solution instantanée
Val Alba Nature Reserve was established after a 1-year long participatory process that involved all local stakeholders and regional administration. It answered to a 30 year long expectation of the local community and it was the first bottom up experience of establishing a protected area in the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia (North East of Italy). This experience has become a model in the Region for the following preparation of Natura 2000 sites management plans.

Impacts
The Nature Reserve is in activity dealing with a full management and several conservation projects. This permits an annual flow of money coming from the regional government to support some activities mainly concerning wildlife monitoring and maintenance of the trails. The local community is still involved in management mainly through the local administration, the section of Italian Alpine Club, local tourist office and schools. Information and educational activities are specifically dedicated to the pupils. Thanks to the realization and maintenance of very light infrastructure and to a promotional activity, the Nature Reserve is now more known and the number of visitors has increased. A new relationship with SNAM (the owner of the big gas pipeline crossing the Reserve) has been developed in order to minimize existing impacts and find solutions to make the company supporting actions in favor of the Reserve.
