Restoration of areas affected by forest fires, through community participation.

The Azul Meámbar National Park (PANACAM) was considered a protected area in 1987 and benefits more than sixty surrounding communities with its water resources. It represents a natural heritage of all Hondurans, being PANACAM the main source of the two largest water reserves in the country, which also constitute resources for electricity generation: Lake Yojoa and Francisco Morazán Reservoir (El Cajón). In April, a fire broke out in the community of Cerro Azul, municipality of Taulabé, affecting an area of twenty hectares, covered with broadleaf successional forest. This fire was shocking because fires are not common in this ecosystem. As a concern of the inhabitants of the area, the Mayor's Office of Taulabé and Proyecto Aldea Global, initiated actions that contribute to the restoration of this area affected by forest fires.
