Community mobilization

Activities and events raise awareness and gain support from the larger community for environmental protection. It includes parades, boat races, sports events and other gatherings. Campaign teams are taught the basics of choosing the right event for the purpose, attracting the right audiences and maximizing the presence of key influencers. Campaign materials may include billboards, posters, banners, T-shirts, and other giveaways that help the campaign team reach their target audiences with the right messages.

Lessons learned

The value of community/team spirit must not be ignored, nor the influence of champions within the community. Working with champions in the community will allow local campaign teams to increase their achievements, in terms of budgets, resources and political support. Complementary knowledge and skills for successful campaigns must also be developed and followed through whether with external assistance or at the community’s or local government unit’s own initiative.
