Act4nature international

Act4nature is an initiative launched by the French association Entreprises pour l'Environnement (EpE) and numerous partners in 2018. Its aim is to mobilize companies on their direct and indirect impacts, their dependencies and their possibilities for nature-friendly action. This alliance between companies, public authorities, scientists and environmental associations has one ambition: to create a collective international dynamic to protect, enhance and restore biodiversity, thanks in particular to the involvement of CEOs from all sectors.
Act4nature international is a French scheme of voluntary commitments by international companies for biodiversity, led by EpE and steered by a multi-stakeholder steering committee (COPIL) that validates the SMART nature of companies' individual commitments. 65 companies in 2018 and around 50 in 2020 have published commitments on the www.act4nature.com website.
Impacts
After two years' experience,Act4nature international has made it possible to :
- Raise awareness and mobilize senior executives and operational managers of international companies to take greater account of biodiversity in their activities and strategies;
- Make a French voice heard in the Business for Nature coalition, which aims to be the voice of business to international organizations on biodiversity, and act to contribute to an ambitious agreement in 2021, at the CBD COP15;
- Promote French companies internationally, and their methods, actions and solutions; act4nature, by recognizing the diversity of relevant indicators for each type of activity, has already had a significant influence on the community of think tanks seeking to structure the thinking and action of companies and financial players on the subject (e.g. SBTn);
- Encourage broader employee mobilization in favor of nature. The 65 companies involved in 2018 represent over 3.5 million employees. Many of them have mobilized at local level, thanks to the legitimization given by their CEO, reinforcing their attachment to their company and their interest in their profession. The work of CSR Departments is greatly stimulated in this respect.
